Standing in the Dark

I fell in love with the helmet of this set when I saw it being worn by someone while I was at Cursed Shore.
The Exotic Norgu / Zhed set uses this skin.

Reminded me of a piece I did a long time ago.

~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~::~

I’ve been forced into a state of oblivion.
For how long… I will never know.
They pilfered my sight bit by bit whilst consuming my soul that now my heart feels forsaken and body feels so bare.
If this is hell, then… escaping is not an option.
I do not wish to live within death.

The song that inspired me to create this was Papa Roach’s Getting Away With Murder.
Sure… you’ll always get away with murder when you’re in most video games genre.. may it be rpg, fps, rts..

Anyway.. been playing this song for some time.
Standing in the dark by Lawson.

GW2… Choose your path

Maybe I’m a bit late at doing this… with so many people who have already created tons of guides.
But here’s a couple of things that I’ve learned about GW2.
A nice Database: http://www.gw2db.com/

Waterfall Scenery

Waterfall Scenery

EXPLORE!
Tyria is one really really gorgeous world!
As beautiful as those that I had once fell in love with… like Aion and Tera.
They utilizes a combination of a heavily modified Guild Wars engine, Havok (FEAR 2, Fallout 3, Starcraft 2, Skyrim) and Umbra Occlusion (Lord of the Rings Online, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2).
I can’t help but run around randomly from one continent to another and takings lots of Screenshots of pretty places!

Get those Waypoints and Vistas!
You get experience just by getting to those points.
While you’re at it, you’ll sure to pass by dynamic events along the way.
Time sure passes by fast when doing so!

GW2 Map

Lost?
This is an awesome website to go to!
http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/queensdale-map-of-pois-waypoints-vistas-skills-and-more/12547/

Note:
If enemies have not been killed for a period of time, you’ll get bonus xp on top of the basic xp.
So, you’re sure to get more xp from killing mobs at a secluded place compared to a location where a handful of players are “ksing” mobs to level.

Ksing doesn’t really work around here though.
Unlike more MMORPGs, even without being in the same party…
You can kill the same mob as another random player and still get the point for an event or renown heart quests.
No last player kill~
No more fighting over a mob or location.
Oh… I remember those days to “book” a location to farm levels.
lol~
This game has made a lot of people master the art of bunny hopping!
Jump around like a maniac and try reaching the top of some building or mountain~

Mail

Mail

Oh yes.. if you’re a newbie and don’t already know.
Please pick up all your rewards from your mail.
Else, you’ll start thinking why you’re so poor, apart from random NPCing of items.

Skill Points

Skill Points

Skill Points!
You need skill points to learn slot skills.

You either have to fight your way through to get to a commune point or do a skill challenge (kill one or a few strong mobs).

Skill Challenge

Skill Challenge

When I started off, I had the mindset of a typical MMORPG-er.
Quests that bring you from one place to another.
That, my friend, is redundant!
Renown hearts are guidelines of where to head to based on levels.
But that does not mean you can’t go to another lower level location and get just as great xp.

Group Events

Group Events

That brings me to another point.
Even as a high level player, I can go to any low level area, explore AND get a good amount of xp.
That’s a HUGE difference.
It simply means, you can enjoy walking around and do soooooooo many events without feeling that you’re too “powerful” or “weak” for one.
Making the event dull and unable to enjoy it as it should.
Plus, doing an event with a huge group of random people feels so awesome!
It does remind me of Rift’s events.

Megalodon

Megalodon

Dynamic events give a significant amount of XP, Karma and Gold.
Sometimes, you’ll get great item drops as well!
You’ll never know what’ll that big fish is gonna give you if you don’t take a dive in the shark infested ocean.

Harathi Highlands

Harathi Highlands

Hello, my friend. Stay awhile and listen..
Deckard Cain’s wise words indeed.

An end of one event can lead to another (not for all events), so pay attention, wait a little and continue the linked events.
At times, you’ll have to talk to the NPCs before triggering a dynamic event.

Harathi Highlands Concurrent Events

Harathi Highlands Events

For example,
[Group Event] Stop the centaurs from retaking their camps
[Group Event] Assault Kingsgate and drive the centaurs back before they can rally their forces
[Group Event] Keep the Modniir invaders from retaking Kingsgate
[Group Event] Defeat Ulgoth the Modniir and his minions

Kol

Kol

There’s also a giant troll champion (Kol) in the North-East of Barricade Camp WP.
Story about Kimber and her husband.
[Group Event] Help Shining Blade Kimber defeat Kol Skullsmasher
[Group Event] Help Shining Blade Kimber find her husband
[Group Event] Kill the centaur war council before reinforcements arrive
Before leading out to the events above, usually when another group is doing the Modniir events.
So, you’ll also get the chest items later.

GW2 Revive Player

GW2 Revive Player

Saw this on a forum,
sees a downed marker on the mini-map
I’ll save you!
player disappears as I turn the corner
Nooo!!!! I wanted the XP!

Roflmao~
Yes, reviving a fellow player will give you xp, so help them whenever you can.. hmm.. well.. not only because you plainly wanted the xp. lol~

Gathering

Gathering

Gathering gives you xp too.
Actually, much more than when you kill mobs!
You can do all three without needing to learn any particular gathering skill.
Just buy an axe, pickaxe or sickle and start gathering!

Harvesting SickleLogging AxeMining Pick

  • Mining – used for ore. Ore can be then refined into ingots which are used by many crafts, particularly the Artificer, Armorsmith, Huntsman, and Weaponsmith.
  • Logging – used to gather logs. Lumber is used by a variety of crafts, particularly the Artificer, Huntsman, and Weaponsmith.
  • Harvesting – used to gather ingredients. Ingredients are used by chefs to prepare food. Food is consumed to give various bonuses, such as extra stats or even bonus experience points.
Inventory

Inventory

Running out of space in your bags?
Right-click the stack of materials and select “Deposit Collectibles” or “Deposit all collectibles”.
They’ll be sent to your materials bank straight away.
Yes… without needing to tp to your bank physically.

Crafting

Crafting

Gathering will lead to crafting.
You’ll gain a pretty yummy amount of xp on crafting.
You could get to level 80 from crafting alone (Devs say: each discipline gives you 10 levels worth)

Different types of Crafting

Different types of Crafting

More on Crafting: http://gaiscioch.com/tavern/guildwars_crafting/post_35198.html

Hint: Don’t level your first 2 chosen disciplines until you reach level 60.

Start doing so afterwards and you’ll get to 80 in no time at all.

Salvage Kits

Salvage Kits

Of course you’ll need the materials beforehand..
Which you could either
1. collect via gathering by your own or killing mobs
2. killing mobs and get EQ that is pretty worthless to sell in Trading Post, which you could salvage into materials.
2. buy from the Trading Post.

GW2 Trading Post

GW2 Trading Post

Crafting isn’t my cup of tea.
Trading is.

Unfortunately, the Trading Post is well known to be down often.
tee hee~

You can “do trading” from anywhere you are.
But in order to get your gold and items that you’ve earned or bought, you’ll need to find the Black Lion Tading Post NPC.

Black Lion Chests

Black Lion Chests

You might get these randomly.
They’re very useful.

Black Lion Key

Black Lion Key

You’ll need a Black Lion Key which can either be from completing certain mileage of the main storyline quest
Or buying from the Gem Store.
Or you could get it from within an opened Black Lion Chest (prolly one every 10 chests.. I don’t know.. I got it in my 1st box.)

Anyway here’s what you get:

  • A random boost. Boosts last for one hour. There are boosts for crafting, experience, magic find, karma, armor and a variety of other bonuses. Not all of the boosts that might be in a Black Lion chest are available on from the cash store, it seems.
  • A random transformation tonic. They turn you into a Guild Wars 2 creature. You might end up considering these a negative, since they’re account bound – can’t sell them – and you’ll have more than you’ll use.
  • A random consumable. These include such things as armor repair kits, a one-time-use mobile banking service and transmutation stones for changing the look of your armor.

I simply love the boosts!

Gem and Gold

Gem and Gold

You don’t necessarily need to use real money to buy stuff.
Head over to “Trade Gold for Gems” and there you have it… gems to spend!

Oh.. don’t ask me how to get gold.
My answer would be “the same way as most games are”.
Farm, trade, dungeons, craft and if ever the gold/gem market gets lucrative enough… in addition to GW2’s dynamic events and renown hearts quests.
Don’t think the list ends there but that’s about all I can remember right now.

Dungeon Locations

Dungeon Locations

Dungeons are pretty fun too.

Ascalonian Catacombs (AC) – Story Mode: level 30
Caudecus’ Manor (CM) – Story Mode: level 40
Twilight Armor (TA) – Story Mode: level 50
Sorrow’s Embrace (SE) – Story Mode: level 60
Citadel of Flame (CoF) – Story Mode: level 70
Honor of the Waves (HoTW) – Story Mode: 76
Crucible of Eternity (CoE) – Story Mode: 78
Arah (Arah) – Story Mode: 80
You can exchange token associated to the dungeons with 8 different merchants in Lion’s Arch for armor/weapons.

Main Storyline

Main Storyline

Lore.. main story mode

Ahhh hahahaha.. I’m not one to talk about this.
I’m only at the beginning.
I had more fun exploring than doing the storymode of “my life”.
I’d probably do it.. some day.. yeah.. sooooommmeee.. day.

WvWvW

WvWvW

WvWvW

It takes ages to queue.
Quicker on a weekday than a weekend.
I waited 5 hours last weekend before my game hang and got booted out after a couple of minutes.
Waited for another 3 hours and gave up ’cause I wanted to go to sleep.
On weekdays, it’ll take me around an hour or so, if I’m lucky.

But when you do get in…
It’s extremely fun and exciting to capture towers and keeps!
As a bonus, it gives pretty good xp!
Get on your pvp mode and KILLLLLL… KILL ‘EM ALLLLL!

Achievements

Achievements

How much have you accomplished?
So much to do!

You’re free to choose whatever you wish to do.
Seriously much more freedom to do what you please compared to other MMORPGs!

Being me, I love the exploring part.
I can’t help but marvel at the beautiful locations.
Not to mention pick out some copies of mountains that are “copied and pasted” from one region to another.
=X

I love the fact that you don’t need to farm at one place to level or ks with others to get a mob.
That as much as you ress others, others will ress you too.
Whether it’s a high or low level area, the system is pretty fair on xp and items.

Last but not least, I initially thought that leveling my last few levels would be a dreadful task.
But I was proven wrong.
I was enjoying running around and doing “errands” that I didn’t even notice my levels.
The random events were much too fun to ignore and I get tons of xp every time.

So…What do you feel like killing? Or more to where…
A champion in the hot desert? The depths of the seas? The burning volcano? The damp swamp or forest? The icy snow capped mountains?

Champion Boss

Champion Boss

Champion bosses are not just in the dungeons like in many other MMORPGs.
In the open for all.
They see no difference in race, life (storyline), short or tall, thin or fat, colour…
Or even level (you could be a low level and die many times at a higher level event but you’ll get ressed and up in your feet in no time at all and have fun!)

HAVE FUN!!!

Ding! Level 30~

So, here’s a little summary.
>_<

Saturday early access: Unstable server… got locked out most of the time.
Sunday: Was at the Armageddon CounterStrike: GO competition from morning and hanging out until evening. Started playing at 8pm.
Monday: Played until late afternoon. Went for dinner with bf’s family as it was his birthday. Started playing at 11pm.
Tuesday: FINALLY! All the time in the world to play.

So.. yeah.. I was so caught up with everything else that I didn’t have much time to play.
But, here’s a recap of my journey in Tyria!

Guild Wars 2 ~ The Opening…

As with most games that just opened its servers to a huge population of minions, issues would occur.
I wouldn’t be here blogging if not for not being able to game.
trollolololol~

The game started 3 hours earlier than it should… but I did see the fine print of it being mentioned that it might be up earlier by 3 hours anyway.
The server that most of the SG and my friends joined Crystal Desert.
But since a couple of other friends who started a little later couldn’t join, I moved to another one.
Can’t remember the name though.

And so.. I created a red-head Ele.
Her story goes that she was born in the slums with a sister who was killed by centaurs and blessed by the fire goddess.
Ahh… I like the sound of that.

Since I didn’t give GW2 beta a spin, it was pretty nice doing events with random strangers in an open world.
Reminds me of Rift and Tera.

The world is beautiful.
Enchanting to say the least.
I love it!
Such an eye-candy.

My next toon will be an Asura Mesmer.
^_^
Isn’t my girl just pweeeeeeety?
lol~
=X

I was kicked out of the game a couple of times.
Mainly after I try to tele to an unknown place through the portal.
If it was that buggy… fair enough.
Logging in again wasn’t a problem.

Not until a few minutes ago.

A pop-up suddenly came up while I was playing stating that my password was wrong.
And… poof! I got kicked out… for the umpteenth time.

Error 42…
That pretty much sums up playing this.

I don’t think there is any issue with my router or firewall.
Seems pretty fine playing other games and whatnot.

Thought I’d try the forums but apparently, it has been down hours ago.
Heavy load… huh?
Sounds familiar…
With every other MMOs… for the first few weeks.

I’ll chill.
Not that I need to rush through anything.
I’m on a weeks’ vacation.
Plenty of time to spare.
Tee hee~

What gaming taught me~

It’s Wednesday!
2 more days before my vacation starts.
I need time off from work totally AND have my real dosage of MMORPG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t care if D3 has a new patch.
Gosh.. I’m sorry I abandoned you~
D, D2 and the expansions were practically my life back then.
But D3 isn’t something I can keep playing with for long.

CS:GO is nice but I really really really need a RPG fix right now.

Most of closer lady colleagues are on vacation right now.
There’s one left.
She asked me what I was going to do during this 1 week break…
While I was fixing a printer issue for her.

Initially, I only said I’d just wanna relax at home.
She asked why I didn’t want to travel somewhere.
Maybe to the neighboring countries at the very least.
I said I was broke.. well, I’m going to be fully broke soon.
She asked if I was going to be bored.
Obviously I answered with a NO! then finally said I was going to be gaming at home.
Then continued on with a “my son’s doing the same thing too.. isn’t playing games boring”.
Well, all I said was, the same way you love your hobby is the same way I love mine and mine consists of gaming.
We talked about other stuff after that though.

Saw a post in FB that gaming made him lower his grades in school.
So, I was thinking about what gaming taught me… no.. not the good stuff.
The BAD ones!

1. Lower my grades too~ Spent more time gaming than studying back then.

2. Overnight at LAN shops/cyber cafes or friends’ place to game non-stop.

3. Violent… mentally. “testing one two three… Mental health-check…” Seems ok right now though. lol~

4. Get out of reality.. get lost and immerse deeply in another life… it can suck you in if you fall in too deep… an addiction.

5. To be everyone else except me

6. Losing friends… disoriented family relationships.

7. Breaking up with a partner.

8. Lose track of time.

9.  Waste money.. although I think they’re well spent.. rofl~

10. That I have multiple lives in game and sometimes forget I only have one life in real life. >_<

*yawn*
I’ll probably post another one stating all the good effects of gaming.. another time, of course.
